| The Neck
The neck is a laminate of cherry, bubinga and two accent strips of curely maple. It's somewhat wider than normal for the serious clawhammer player. Over the past 30 years I've learned to trust well-glued laminates for both strength and the ability to avoid warping. I don't much care for adjustable truss rods, so instead this neck has two lengths of 1/2" X 1/8" steel bar epoxied in place. That, combined with the extra thick ebony fretboard, creates a very stiff and extremely stable neck. The position indicators and peghead decoration are solid brass and fully penetrate the ebony, so they will be there forever, even with resurfacing. The peghead design reflects the eight-sided block rim construction. The nut is ebony, creating an unbroken flow from the fretboard to the peghead. Tuners are 5 Star, with a geared 5th string tuner.
